Iridology is the study of functional disturbances that are occurring in the body by examining abnormal changes of color and marks in the iris of the eye. It is an extremely fascinating subject which allows you to pinpoint key areas in the body that are out of balance, over stimulated and/or under functioning and needing assistance. You can analyze the different body systems to see which one is at the core of the imbalance as well as corresponding areas that are compensating. Blood vessels present in the sclera or white part of the eye also give information about the body aiding in the diagnostic process.

There are 5 different constitutional types of irises. This is not negotiable as your constitution is inherited and can not be altered. This provides very important information regarding an individuals overall strengths and weaknesses and what forms, doses and types of treatments would be best suited for them. The iris itself is divided into 7 zones that are very similar to the age rings in a tree. They begin just outside the pupil and spread outward throughout the iris to it's edge. These zones correspond to all of out body systems from the stomach and intestines, nervous system, organs and glands to circulation and lymphatic to the skin. In conjunction with these zones, the iris is further divided exactly like a clock face with all of the body components being represented in different time zones, if you will.

Iridology can help you identify conditions in the body from over activity and inflammation to under activity and congestion to poor elimination, toxicity deposits, assimilation issues, and ph imbalances to name a few. It identifies how advanced the condition is, where and what in the body is being affected and whether it is connected to spinal misalignments or specific organ and system imbalances.

The way it works is extraordinary. Basically, the eye is connected to the optic nerve which is part of the autonomic nervous system. When something occurs in the body such as a physical trauma, for example, afferent nerves send signals to the brain from the affected site. The brain responds in turn through efferent nerves sending information back to the affected site. Since the entire body is linked via the nervous system, all information is sent along these same channels to the fibers in the iris. These fibers will raise up or sink downward depending upon the degree and stage of the problem in the body, showing how deeply the organ/ system is affected.

Then through a combination of diet, nutrition, emotional healing, life style changes, holistic modalities, vitamins and plants an individual can begin to shift, clear, heal and rebuild themselves. This can be disconcerting at first because the body always heals from the inside out so everything that needs to be released is often re-experienced as it is expelled from the body. The positive aspect of this process is that the iris also changes as the body heals reassuring an individual that they are on the right track.
